Batchgeo

I just learned about a really cool, new website! (well, new to me) It's called Batchgeo. It's a super simple mapping site. This site allows you to create a map of different locations using addresses or coordinates. The map I created shows the location of various students in my EDUC 2225 class. We were able to share our addresses with each other through a spreadsheet on Google Docs. I thought it was really neat how we could all go in and open/edit the document at different times, the changes appear to everyone, and there is not emailing or attaching documents. It's so amazing what you can do with modern technology. And to think, email used to be considered top-notch!

This type of technology would have been mind-boggling just a few years ago. Now, this is how 21st century educators communicate with and educate students and parents. Using this type of technology would definitely make you a 21st century educator. 21st century educators need to be informed with all of the latest and greatest technology so they can keep up with their students and also educate them. This would be an excellent form to have parents complete at the beginning of the school year. It would eliminate a lot of paper work and would be just as, if not more, effective. You could have all of the parents send in their email address, you could email them the spreadsheet in Google Docs, and then create a map of all of the children's homes. This would be especially helpful in pre-k, when home visits are done. It would be a great organizational tool as well.

Below is a picture of the map I created using the Batchgeo website. Or, you can click on this link to view my map. =)

ISTE NETS Standards: Standard 1: During this activity, students were expected to complete an assignment using digital tools and technology system and media; Google Docs. This required active learning and an understanding of the content that was being used. Digital communication has come a long way in the past few years. It aides in the advancement of resources and support. Standard 2: Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. This assignment was to develop a digital map using given coordinates. It was all completed via the Internet using various types of digital media.
